BINGHAMTON, NY – With many winter highschool sports activities seasons left incomplete, a couple of Part 4 groups can now name themselves state champions.
Earlier in the present day, a number of native groups have been honored as state co-champions by Broome County Government Jason Garnar at two ceremonies at Otsiningo Park.
Garnar offered members of these groups with official citations declaring their championship standing.
Groups included have been Seton Catholic Central, Johnson Metropolis, and Binghamton in boy’s basketball,
Maine-Endwell in woman’s basketball, as nicely Union-Endicott woman’s and M-E boy’s and women bowling.
After the ceremonies, Garnar defined why he felt compelled to make this official.
“They’re the final group standing. So, we imagine that they need to be declared state champions. They didn’t lose their final sport. They received their final sport. So far as I’m involved, should you’re within the states and also you win your final sport, you’re the state champion. So, we’ve declared all these groups state champions, groups which can be from Broome County,” says Garnar.
As Garnar talked about, that is for groups who have been in a state match from Broome County on the time of the shutdown as a consequence of COVID-19.
